about

igloomag review:

"Power Tools is a musical mixing pot; an album that refuses to stick to one genre throughout and starts off with two ambient pieces, “Hz_Volt” and “Midline Mainline.” The former is a completely beatless mixing of drones and dissonant tones while the later infuses ambience tied to filtered bits of white noise and drawn-out sub-bass hits. This gives a deceptive impression of where things are going to head from here forward. Power Tools really starts to hit its stride once the beats kick in on “Sidedog” – a spastic track brushed against stuttered percussion. “Unten” is the most memorable amidst its balance of distorted kicks and luscious pads. “Electraum” evokes memories of early ’90s-era U-ziq and Apex Twin by making use of distorted (yet clean sounding) drum and echoing melodics. Shifting into a completely different direction, “The Lonliness” makes use of House motives and contrasting elements of noise. As the album starts, it ends with two ambient pieces; the reflective “Theme for a Failed Shuttle Launch” and the down-tempo “Pressure Release.” Voltek has produced a wonderfully schizophrenic release with Power Tools; even though the tracks touch of a myriad of genres, they are all very solid in their own right."
